Gatis Kokins was inspired to turn to business because of a sad experience: “Our family had a dog that had been diagnosed with skin cancer. This painful experience made me dig deeper – animals, just like humans, are influenced both by the food they eat, pollution in their surrounding environment, and products used. Researching the products available on the market for pet care I came to the conclusion that bio and eco products in most cases are marketing tricks. In reality, the products are made up of many synthetic ingredients that can cause irritation and serious skin problems.” That’s why a decision was made to change the situation. Gatis took his business idea – natural pet care product manufacturing – and applied to PINK. Conversations went well, and he was accepted. “We validated our business idea, create a product prototype, gave them to potential users to be tested, and listened to feedback to understand what can be improved. We were also helped by the lessons, seminars, and contacts,” Gatis lays down the main PINK benefits.
As the idea had proven its potential within half a year, a company was registered and the idea was immediately submitted to INK, and was accepted. Currently “Purus.Pet” products include natural dog shampoos – “Sensitive” for sensitive skin, “Antibacterial” to reduce itching and skin irritation, “Shine” for lustrous fur, and most recently, “Extra sensitive”, which is specifically suited for puppies. The shampoo’s unique value proposition is the effective recipes that were developed using natural ingredients. Products are dermatologically tested and cause neither irritation, nor allergic skin reactions.
Currently, work is being done to develop the range of products, entering the local market and developing the company’s brand recognition. In the beginning of 2019, the first batch was sent beyond the country borders and the company is slowly beginning to enter the Estonian market. Within INK, the team is in the running for grants, so that the company can grow even faster.
Nothing happens immediately.
